Vidyarthi Bhavan, Bengaluru’s famed South Indian restaurant, experienced a rare music fusion on December 3 when legendary drummer Sivamani stopped by for breakfast. Sivamani, who is celebrated for his mastery of rhythm, took over the kitchen and turned the “humble” kitchen into a stage. His amazing talent left his audience stunned as he paired beats with the sizzling voice of dosas being cooked. The video of the spontaneous performance was posted on X (formally Twitter) by the restaurant’s handle. Within a few hours, the video has collected over 10,000 views.
“A rhythmic twist at #VidyarthiBhavan. The #LegendaryDrummer Sivamani visited us for #breakfast today & turned our humble kitchen into a stage. He mesmerised everyone with his #IncredibleTalent & #beats. A #moment to cherish and #celebrate the fusion of art & tradition!” the caption reads.
Soon after posting, the video caught the attention of social media users who poured love over the unique performance.
A user said, “Food & Music – Fusion!”
Another commented humorously, “Wow! That’s how my stomach reacts when it’s not fed on time. Louder, when around.”
Another noted, “Look at our dose master, doing his job, unperturbed with what’s happening around him. Kudos.”
Nice….but look at our dose master, doing his job, unperturbed with what’s happening around him. Kudos— OB Raya ಓಬಿರಾಯ (@OBRaya11) December 3, 2024
A similar incident took place in January 2024, when Sivamani surprised travellers at Kochi Airport with an impromptu performance. Passengers were waiting for their luggage at the conveyor belt. After 40 minutes, there was still no sign of their bags. That’s when the 64-year-old artist, who was also a passenger on the aircraft, decided to amuse them with his musical talent.

The artist played AR Rahman’s ‘Humma Humma’ beats with his drumsticks on the conveyor belt railings. A fellow passenger captured the performance, which went viral after being uploaded on the microblogging platform.
After watching the video, internet fans were ecstatic, praising the artist for transforming a dull airport delay into a wonderful experience for his fellow passengers.
Renowned Indian percussionist Sivamani is celebrated for his exceptional skills across various instruments like drums, octoban, darbuka, udukai, ghatam, and kanjira. He became popular by performing alongside Rahman on several occasions and his performances in the IPL. The artist also received a Padma Shri for his outstanding contribution to music in 2019.
