Showing off cash garlands is not a rare tradition in Indian weddings. The trend seems to have gained popularity in neighbouring countries as well. A Pakistani groom recently caused a stir across the Internet after a viral video showed him wearing a 35-foot garland, entirely crafted with currency notes. It was a gift from his brother, who used local currency of varying denominations to prepare the unique wedding accessory. Nearly 2,000 notes were attached to the garland, and the amount was estimated to be around 1 lakh Pakistani rupees (30,000 INR approximately), as reported by The Daily Guardian.
As revealed by the outlet, the person who designed the impressive wedding gift for his brother is a resident of the Kotla Jam area of Punjab in Pakistan. A video featuring the garland was dropped on YouTube. The clip opens with a group of five or six men carefully bringing the huge garland to the wedding venue.
Apart from currency notes, flowers and colourful ribbons were used to decorate the accessories. Upon reaching the groom, two men cautiously put it around his neck. All of them then clicked some pictures with the garland.
It was not the first time that a groom went viral after wearing a cash garland at his wedding. Earlier, another man shook the internet by flaunting an impressive 30-foot garland made entirely of currency notes.
The video was shared on Instagram by a page named FHM Pakistan. “A Punjabi groom recently went viral for donning an impressive 30-foot garland made entirely of rupee notes worth Rs. 500,000 at his wedding,” read the caption of the post. The video impressed many users, but some slammed the groom and his family for “spending too much on this gimmick.”
A few days ago in Uttar Pradesh, a groom was spotted chasing down a thief who allegedly stole his cash-made wedding garland. It seemed like a scene from an action movie. The man even climbed on a moving mini-truck in an effort to catch the thief. He finally managed to retrieve the stolen accessory. The thief was later beaten up by the groom and his friends.
