A Russian man died after his cat scratched his leg, leading to severe blood loss, Daily Mail reported. The shocking event unfolded on November 22. The victim, Dmitry Ukhin, had just reunited with his pet Styopka who had gone missing in the neighbourhood a couple of days ago.
Ukhin put much effort into finding the cat which was finally rescued from a nearby street. The 55-year-old brought Styopkha home and on the same evening, it suddenly got violent and scratched its owner. The Daily Mail report claimed the man had several health issues. He was suffering from diabetes and the rate of blood clotting in his body was also quite poor due to high pressure.
These complications made the situation more critical as Ukhin was unable to stop the bleeding. As soon as he realised the severity of the wound, Ukhin sought help from one of his neighbours. As revealed by the police, his friend called the emergency service at around 11 PM to report the incident.
“Around 11 pm, a man called 112 to report that his friend was bleeding from his leg due to a torn vein. The scratches on Dmitry’s leg were so severe that he died of blood loss,” a source close to the developments said, as per Daily Mail.
The neighbour helped Ukhin with first aid but it was not enough to stop the bleeding. By the time a medical team came to his house, the man had already died. His wife Natalya was not present there at the moment. According to her, Styopkha is a kind, harmless cat who loves to roam freely outdoors.
Natalya, however, didn’t reveal anything about whether she would keep the pet. Though Ukhin’s persistent health issues and bleeding are predicted to be the cause of his death, forensic experts have yet to confirm it.
