Apple provides AppleCare+, an extended warranty plan designed to cover accidental damage protection, battery replacement, and theft or loss. Most people sign up for it to reduce the out-of-pocket repair costs and ensure the longevity of their devices. One MacBook Pro owner, who had purchased an AppleCare+ plan for their laptop, met with a car accident and their laptop sustained damage. Thinking their AppleCare+ plan would cover it, they went to the Apple Store to get a replacement.
However, to their dismay, the store denied it, citing that the laptop was “too damaged” to qualify under the plan. After the MacBook Pro user was left hanging without a working device despite paying for AppleCare+, they shared their experience on Reddit to warn others about the limitations of the plan. Their “sad story” has sparked discussions around the reliability of the AppleCare+ coverage.
“Beware of Apple Care+,” wrote Reddit user “frk1974″ on the platform’s “Mac” community.

The user, shared a picture of their laptop, and said, “Sad story: my beloved MacBook Pro has been involved in a car accident. I have the Apple Care+ plan for accidental damages. They are not going to replace the Mac because it’s ‘too damaged’.”
They further added that their “money got wasted” after the store denied replacement.

Their post, since being shared five days ago on the platform, has accumulated over 11,000 upvotes and numerous comments.
“They want you to claim the car insurance,” wrote an individual. The original poster replied, “Unfortunately I can’t because I was the driver that caused the accident. The insurance is covering third parties.”

While responding to another Reddit user who suggested they visit a different Apple store to get their laptop replaced, the original poster explained, “According to the several Apple representatives I talked with, It’s not a matter of what kind of accident, but how bad is the damage.”
“…they immediately pointed me to a paragraph in the Apple Cover + terms where they state: folded and crushed devices are not covered. This is not advertised at all of course, but it’s there,” they added.
