Food delivery platform Zomato introduced a fascinating feature that enables customers to order food on the train. Passengers need to attach details of their journey to the order and the food will be delivered to their seats. To evaluate its convenience, a techie from Bengaluru recently chose to use the new service while travelling from Mumbai to Pune. He shared his experience in detail via a thread on X (formerly Twitter) that garnered significant traction from other users.
Though his train had a dedicated catering service, Sunny Gupta decided to try the Zomato feature. Upon opening the application, he found a prompt asking for his Passenger Name Record (PNR).
After scrolling through the list of available restaurants, Gupta ordered from a place serving “Triple Shezwan Rice”. As Zomato allows customers to choose delivery at any upcoming stations, Gupta “picked Panvel”. The techie further revealed the order could be booked “four days in advance” and cancellation could be done “anytime before preparation starts”.
In a following post, Gupta mentioned his train was running late. As noticed by Zomato, his food had already been prepared and was waiting to be delivered at the Panvel station. “This is probably the first time I am taking revenge on Zomato. The food delivery guy is waiting for me and I’m running late,” Gupta quipped.
“My message to Zomato: This is not the experience I wished you to have. I would like to thank you for your patience. As a token of appreciation, I will pay Rs. 50 tip extra on my next order,” he added.

Gupta also recorded the moment when a “polite” delivery partner handed him the parcel. He was quite impressed by the service. The restaurant, however, didn’t send him any cutlery while it was mandatory to provide the customer with plates and spoons in case of train delivery. Gupta also dropped a photo of the Schezwan Rice, confirming that the food was “sufficient.”
Once the post surfaced on the microblogging platform, many users shared their experience of using this new feature of Zomato. Some felt Gupta could have given a tip to the delivery guy who had to wait for him at the Panvel station. The post has already collected more than 1 million views on X.
