Villagers in Mae Sot, Tak province, near the Thai-Myanmar border, recently experienced a terrifying encounter with ghostly cries emanating from a nearby forest. The eerie sounds were so loud at night that residents refused to leave their homes or approach the woods, fearing they were caused by spirits. When the situation became increasingly intense, local police decided to take action.
Upon searching the forest, they were shocked to discover that the cries were coming from a man trapped at the bottom of a well. Identified as Liu Chuanyi, the Chinese citizen explained that he had fallen into the well three days earlier and had been shouting for help every hour in an attempt to be rescued.
Although Liu believed no one had heard him, the villagers confirmed that they had indeed heard his cries. But due to the strange and frightening nature of the sounds, they assumed it was a spirit haunting the forest, according to The Universal Daily News.
The rescue operation took 30 minutes, and when the man was found, he was in a weak condition. Reports indicate that he had a fractured left wrist, a head injury and bruises on his body. Liu had been trapped in the well without food or water. After being rescued, he was promptly taken to hospital for further medical care.
According to the South China Morning Post, Liu Chuanyi said that he shouted for help every hour in order to conserve his energy. Villagers near the forest had heard the strange cries and assumed it was a ghost haunting the area.
Authorities believe that Liu accidentally fell into the well while trying to find his way out of the forest. At present, police are unsure why he was near the Thailand-Myanmar border, but they have already contacted the immigration department to investigate the matter.
Liu is now out of danger. The local authorities have decided to seal the well to prevent anyone else from falling into it.
