US President-elect Donald Trump has courted controversy for his latest joke, asking a little black girl if he could “buy” her hair for “millions”. The incident took place at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the President-elect was spotted behind the wheel of a golf cart interacting with supporters. While some users labelled Trump’s comments as racially motivated and wrong, others defended it as a mere joke without malicious intent.
In the widely circulated video, Trump complimented the girl’s hair saying: “Oh, I love that girl. I love that hair. I want her hair!” He then teased, “Can I buy your hair?” I’ll pay you millions for that,” which made people around him laugh. The girl replied she had voted for him and Trump said that he voted for her too and asked her to come and sit in the golf cart with him for the photos.

The video started making rounds on social platforms, getting millions of views and responses. Some of the X commenters were outraged and said that such comments meant there was a new low when it comes to Trump’s attitude towards Black women. This prompted supporters to reason that if it was made by another person it would have been considered cute not provocative.
