After remaining engulfed amid deep layers of smog over the past several weeks, the air quality in Delhi has witnessed a slight improvement, maintaining a moderate AQI for the second consecutive day on Thursday, December 5. While the national capital on Wednesday recorded the AQI at 178, it came down to 161 on Thursday, offering much-needed relief to people. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the improved levels are expected to continue for the next 2 to 3 days, followed by a thinner layer of smog and reduced temperature.
While Delhi citizens are now breathing fresher air after quite a long time, many have taken to social media to share their reactions and feelings over getting relief from the deteriorating weather conditions. A user claimed that the air pollution is just a temporary phenomenon in Delhi and added, “This is the start of December and we have moderate aqi regularly. It’s mostly agricultural pollution but who can say anything to annadata.”

One of the users expressed delight over the improved air quality around India Gate, emphasising how it benefits the early morning runners. “It’s great to see that the air quality around India Gate has improved to a ‘Moderate’ level! This change allows early morning runners to enjoy their exercise routine in a healthier environment. In the meantime, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the improved air quality is due to the strong surface winds that are expected to blow till December 7. Later, a new western disturbance is expected to form, leading to moderate fog starting over the weekend.
