Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall on Saturday, flooded several areas in Puducherry, disrupting normal life. The Union Territory recorded 46 cm of rainfall on Saturday, more than double the rains (21 cm) recorded on October 31, 2004.
Amid severe waterlogging in multiple areas, a heartwarming video of a man rescuing a dog has caught the attention of many on the internet. News agency ANI on December 1 shared the video on X, featuring a stray dog stranded in knee-deep water looking for help. Soon after, a man courageously came to the dog’s rescue and lifted him to a safe location.
“A dog stuck in the water was rescued as a flood-like situation continues in parts of Puducherry following incessant rainfall,” ANI wrote along with the video.

Heavy rains, triggered by Cyclone Fengal, left several residential areas inundated on the outskirts of the boulevard limits. Trees were uprooted at various locations due to the impact of the cyclonic storm, while a power outage was reported in various localities after 11 PM on Saturday.
Puducherry Education Minister A Namachivayam has announced a holiday on Monday for all the government and government-aided schools as well as private schools and colleges.
Looking at the unprecedented situation, the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were called in for rescue operations in the Union Territory after a formal request was made by the District Collector due to the extreme situation.
According to an official statement, nearly 200 people were rescued from different areas in Puducherry, including Krishna Nagar. In videos, two-wheelers and cars parked on roads could be seen partially submerged in rainwater that entered residential colonies in the region.
