Brain teasers are like a workout for your mind and keep your problem-solving faculties in check. They range from basic ones to hard ones which demand a lot of thinking and thought processing. These are great for people who love to challenge their brains in different creative ways. They are also an entertaining and educational way of passing time while at the same time keeping your brain active.
Today, we have a rather peculiar brain teaser which was posted by a Reddit user. This one should certainly keep your neurons working. It relates to numbers and months, which means it’s time to use as much logic as you can.
The brain teaser covers a series of numbers related to the months of the year. Here’s the pattern:
January = 175
February = 286
March = 352
April = 430
May = 550
June = 612
July = 714
August = 825
September = 930
October = 1042
November = 118?
Your task is to come up with a set or rule which will link the numbers to the existing months. What digit shall be in relation to November?
Let’s think some more about the interactions of the months and the numbers out there. It is not easy so you can take time if you want to get it right. We’ll wait!
Were you able to solve it? If not, here’s the secret behind the numbers:
First Digit: This number represents the month. Thus, for the beginning of any given month, where January is represented by ‘1’ and February by ‘2’, and so on.
Second Digit: This one represents the letters in the name of the month. For instance, if the month is ‘January’, which has seven letters, then the second digit assigned to January is 7. Again, ‘February’ has 8 letters, so the second letter that would go with it is 8.
Third Digit: The last digit refers to the position of the last vowel in the name of that month. In January, the last vowel is ‘a’ and this belongs to the 5th position. So, the last digit of the number for January month is 5. For February, the last vowel is ‘a’ which is at the sixth position, hence the number 6.
Now let’s use this pattern and find out what number should be with November:
November is the eleventh month of the year so there will be a double-digit – 11. The second digit is 8 because, of course, this word has 8 letters. The last vowel of the word ‘November’ is ‘e’, which is in the 6th position. So, the number for November is 1186.
