Weddings are often filled with beautiful and emotional traditions and one of the most cherished moments is when couples exchange vows. Many brides and grooms personalise this tradition by sometimes sharing anecdotes or moments to make it special. However, one couple’s unique take on wedding vows has left the internet with mixed feelings. Instead of opting for the usual heartfelt promises, Aaron and Rebel Sawyer, a musical duo, decided to turn their vows into a rap battle at the altar that caught their guests off guard.
The video begins with the couple standing at the altar, holding hands and getting ready to share their unconventional vows. Rebel, dressed in a white wedding gown, stands across from Aaron, who sports a casual look with a white unbuttoned shirt and baggy pants. As music starts playing, Rebel breaks the silence with a question: “Aaron Sawyer, do you want something real?” The guests, visibly surprised, look around as the couple picks up microphones to begin rapping their vows.
Rebel starts first, rapping about their deep connection. She sings about their bond, describing how he “elevates” her spirit and aligns her heart “Praying with your hands in mine, our hearts become aligned. Your Taurus love opens my eyes, I am goddess by your side,” she continues.
When it was Aaron’s turn, he used unique references like psilocybin, a psychedelic substance, to describe their shared experiences and memories. He raps about his devotion and their emotional connection, describing their love as “golden.” His vows also include lines like, “Gave you my heart in the lotus, the Leo queen of the solstice.”
The couple danced as they rap to create a unique moment at the altar. However, some guests seem unsure how to react as in the video few are seen sitting quietly with no expressions.
Rebel also shared the wedding rap on Facebook, writing, “When you are soulmates and collaborators, even your wedding vows turn into a lyrical masterpiece. This is part two of the love we spit on our big day.”
Once their unique performance came to an end, the couple turned to their guests and asked for their thoughts. The room erupted in cheers. The officiant remarked, “Wow. Weddings will never be the same.”
Their video quickly caught attention online, sparking mixed reactions from social media users. Many found the couple’s rap “cringe,” with one user writing, “Oh the second-hand embarrassment.”
Another added, “That was the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”
Someone else said, “This makes me so uncomfortable,” while a person asked, “Did anyone else find this traumatic?”
