A 20-year-old woman from Bengaluru shared her frustrating experience of searching for a rental flat, revealing an unexpected hurdle: age discrimination. Despite being responsible and well-prepared, Naina faced rejections from potential flatmates due to her young age. In a video posted on X with the caption “desperate times call for desperate measures,” she vented her frustration after being turned down for a “really pretty house” in the Domlur area.

“I have a lot of friends who are in their mid-20s and late 20s. I keep calling them boomers, old, millennials etc. I am basically an ageist but in a good way, not in a very derogatory way and it hit me yesterday that Karma is a b***h,” Naina stated.

She was on the lookout for a rental place in the Domlur locality since it is in closer proximity to workplaces and educational institutions. Naina was determined to secure a particular flat that looked appropriate for her. As she was looking forward to meeting her current flatmates, they expressed their worry about her being just 20 years old.

As narrated by Naina in the video, her flatmates told her: “We are not comfortable with you living here because you are only 20″.

To ensure she gets the opportunity to rent the flat, Naina had to create a PowerPoint presentation of her good qualities as a roommate. This strategy presented her personality and choice of lifestyle, stating that she does not smoke or drink and that she is low-maintenance.

“I am not intimidating. If you want your own space, that’s fine too,” she said.

Having shared her story on the social media platform, Naina’s story went viral shortly. Users soon resorted to helping her find a place to live.
